Educators in Ras Al Khaimah are hailing the introduction of the Golden Visa programme as a pivotal step towards stability and job security in the teaching profession. Launched by the RAK Department of Knowledge, the initiative grants self-sponsored, long-term residency to eligible private school educators, addressing long-standing concerns about short-term contracts and frequent visa renewals.
Lydia, a 25-year-old American special education teacher at Wellspring School, described the programme as a validation of her commitment to the community. “It provides stability and recognition, allowing me to invest more in my role,” she said, expressing a desire to see her students succeed over the long term.
Similarly, Catherine, a British kindergarten teacher at Ras Al Khaimah Academy, called it a “transformative step” that promotes teacher retention and enhances the quality of education. “This initiative fosters a sense of belonging and encourages excellence,” she added.
The Golden Visa is available to educators who have spent at least three years in Ras Al Khaimah, hold advanced degrees, and demonstrate positive contributions to school performance. Benefits extend to their families, providing a foundation for long-term living and career planning in the emirate.
Candace, a 51-year-old South African high school science teacher, praised the programme for creating growth opportunities. “It encourages longer-term commitments, which were previously uncertain with two-year contracts,” she said, noting that the initiative has changed her perception of teaching in the UAE from temporary to permanent.
Temitope, a Nigerian assistant head of secondary at GEMS Westminster School, echoed these sentiments. “This programme enhances job satisfaction and eliminates the stress of frequent visa renewals,” the 41-year-old said, highlighting its role in attracting top-tier educators and solidifying Ras Al Khaimah’s status as an educational hub.
The programme’s launch underscores Ras Al Khaimah’s commitment to building a world-class education system while rewarding educators for their invaluable contributions to the emirate’s future.
